FYI:

QUEENSBURY – A hunter died Tuesday after falling from his tree stand, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said. Gordon D. Bartholomew, 58, of Warrensburg, was found unresponsive Tuesday evening at the foot of a tree stand. Bartholomew was bowhunting alone on a property on Chestnut Ridge Road. He got the property owner’s permission to hunt around 3 p.m. When he did not return from the woods that evening, the resident went looking for him and called emergency medical services. First responders unsuccessfully attempted resuscitation, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Bartholomew had been hunting from a tree stand. The Sheriff’s Office said he appeared to have been climbing down from the stand, lost his footing and fell 20 to 25 feet to the ground. The office is awaiting the results of an autopsy to learn more. Bay Ridge Fire Department, South Queensbury Fire Department and Bay Ridge Rescue assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

Very sad and avoidable. Always use a lifeline when climbing and descending. Prayers for his family and friends.

Yes sad indeed. If you don't have a lifeline set up use a linesman's belt and when you get to the stand use your harness and treestand strap to get into the stand always connected to the tree. Plenty of youtube videos show how it is done.
