No Deer Movement
Connecticut

Seems like besides a few guys who have had success, no one has reported much deer movement besides on the sides of roads or backyards. Seems like the deer are still nocturnal in my areas. Anyone else noticing that as well? The site has been very quiet for this time of the year.
Yuup..... hopefully with the time change we'll see more in the morning light lol
I'm in Kentucky for 7 more days. Little Bucks chasing a few days ago, cell cameras have gone silent past two days. Being in mid 70's doesn't help.
Nothing for me this morning. But I've been seeing 1-3 most days. No bucks though. I've only seen four bucks so far, all on the same property (Hunting 4 properties). I hunt mostly mornings.
Steve - hope you do well in Kentucky. My foot is healed to about 90% so I NEED to get out soon. Daughter's wedding was this past Saturday and now we have to babysit her dog and son, so maybe next week will be my first time out. You guys are lucky you're at least getting out there, even if you're not seeing much.
Long bow opens in 9 days lol. BBB glad to hear that you are on the mend.
My cameras have been very quiet the past 48 hours too.
Driving through CT today on a parkway and saw a doe bedded down literally like 6 feet from the highway with a rock wall behind her just watching cars fly by could have spit on her she was so close. Kind of odd sight to see. Other then that my cell cams been on fire over the weekend.
Seen little movement here as well , lucky I got that doe back in sept. Went to Maine hunted hard 4 days saw 1 deer - 150 yds away. That’s the season so far
Compared to last week, this week has been very quiet. I have some time off this week but weather doesn’t look promising. Too warm for a lot of daytime movement
Same here. No sightings last couple times out and trail cameras getting more cougar pics and squatch photos than deer lately. Looking forward to having next two weeks off and spending more time in the woods.
I think the warm weather has a lot to do with it. I was thinking of going out Thursday morning because the overnight temp will be 30. But other than that I’m probably gonna wait until next week when it cools off.
All cameras dropped way off did get a small 8 at 7 this morning. Plenty out yots
5 hours this morning, just another coyote. No shot. No deer. Rut? What rut?
In my area they seem to have had a little rut after the last full moon. Took down fences etc...I'm sure that the best is yet to come
I got two really nice bucks fighting on my camera at 5:45 this morning. The sequence shows a lone doe, then a big 10 point approach and then he is all puffed up and makes a scrape Suddenly there is another buck, but I can’t tell what he is. And then they are fighting. Both look to be about the same body size and antler size. Cool sequence for sure!
I was out yesterday afternoon and blind grunted in a nice 6 pointer. Probably a 2 1/2 year old. I was going to shoot him, but he turned directly toward my tree at 70 yards out and winded me as he got directly underneath. No shot angles.
I was out again this afternoon to a different spot and saw nothing. It’s gotta turn on soon. This is crazy the lack of roaming bucks during daytime hours.
It’s so crunchy out now, you can hear them coming from a long long way away.
This is the battle I was referring to
Wow longbeard that’s awesome
Wow longbeard that’s awesome
Great pic Longbeard! 2 definite shooters
LB, what an action shot !
Found the does all hanging around a scrape wondering where the bucks are lol
Great picture of the bucks, I would try some rattling in that area and see what happens.
I got deer that consistency bed down behind one of my properties I maintain. Yesterday I had 6 doe all bedded down without one buck around.
I have seen deer nearly every time out since the end of September, and passed on a few young deer, and a doe with yearlings. Lots of acorns that are bringing in the deer. Monday the 1st, I had a medium sized 8 broadside at 40 plus yards, and I passed the shot. It was beyond my comfort range. Shortly after, a small 6 came by at 70 yards.
Went last Wednesday and Friday, cold and clear, and I didn't see a single deer??? I thought that it may have started by now.
Also, my camera is showing deer only at night. With the warm, clear, sunny weather, and East wind, I didn't go out this week. Nearly every deer this year has come from one direction, and that East wind will blow my scent towards that direction, and I don't want to pollute my stand.
I need any wind except from the East. Hopefully the weather will change tomorrow.
Air, where are you hunting? We haven’t had an East wind in weeks. It’s been N or W…..and the 10 day forecast is N and W. Tomorrow is maybe E, but it keeps changing to slightly S and E.
All the activity is at night or very late in the afternoons with little shooting light left. Still waiting for the flurry of morning activity usually associated with the full blown rut.
My buddy lives in Litchfield, and has a weather station that connects to Weather Underground.
I can check the wind at my buddy's house live.
It has been showing East yesterday and this morning.
Any East wind.. SE to NE is NFG.
Plus, the fall colors are two weeks behind this year, maybe the rut is as well... That's my story and I'm sticking with it.. :)
Unusually slow for my usual hunts in Ohio. I have less time this year to hunt but managed a long weekend last wknd and several other wknd hunts. Less scrapes and rubs than usual and very few deer sightings. I did see a few small bucks not pay any attention to mature does but also saw some chasing just as many have stated, is slower this year...Good luck to all moving forward!
Finally saw some deer moving this morning. Small buck, probably a spike, cruising at first light. Then three does an hour later. No bucks tailing them though.
One doe this morning at 6:40. No bucks.
Fat 6 pointer on camera tonight. After shooting light, of course, but good to finally see some sign of movement.
Painfully slow for me as well. Deer on my private ground seem to have become more and more skiddish. It started about 3 years ago....about when the bear set up shop. I purposely stayed out all spring, summer and early fall. Never even set a trail cam. I started hunting 2 days before Halloween. I haven't even spooked a deer walking to my stand. Giving it a go in the am.
Pretty slow, not much movement, been out for 8 afternoon sits have saw 4 small does - no bucks, not great. Have some decent bucks on camera at 2 spots but no action in the past week. I did manage to arrow a coyote 3 weeks ago on my second sit of the year which was nice because it's my first coyote. Have drawn back 4 times before on ones but they all either smelled me or saw me in the tree and bolted
I've recently talked with a few good Ct. bow hunters who are also seeing less deer this year. Any ideas as to why? Three top fawn /deer predators seem largely unchecked, namely bobcat, bear and coyote; perhaps we're now seeing the end result.
Currently taking care of our Grandson and our daughter's pet dog until 11/18 when they return from their honeymoon, so now that my foot is healed I plan on heading out the end of next week for the first time this year. I'm thinking all of the deer in the state are at my spot because no one else is seeing anything. :>)
BBB you hunt a Bow Only State Area? That’s great. Most of these areas hold deer, but are very tiny acreage. Good luck!
You're right Blood, there are a few like that and the day of the week you hunt and where you walk in make quite a bit of difference in my opinion. I also hunt two other areas open to the gun season and it seems the gunners a bit lazy and push the deer to thick areas at the back of of the area. I really like these area for late season when the deer are looking for quiet, safe areas with good cover bedding down.
BBB, glad you've healed up ; go git 'em, good luck.
Everyone make sure to wear your orange next week starting on Wednesday if your in Bow only state land or private. Shoot straight!
Bow only areas still require orange?
Up to 10' with orange. A lot of those bow only areas get deer pushed in during gun season
I hunt on private bow hunting only land and the DEEP officer told me I had to wear orange to my stand during rifle season. The deer were moving this morning, I had mom and two small ones around my stand. Also saw a small rack buck but out of range.
Nothing moving where I was this morning. Sat 'til 1045.
Me and my son were out again. Two different spots. Nothing moving. Nothing.
Just left my club property and there was a 4 PT. 25 yards off the dirt Rd following 2 does at 2 pm
3:30pm - just saw a couple of deer fly past my window in this storm, glad I wasn't in a tree today. Holy cow what a storm!!
Saw one doe this morning 5 minutes after I got into my stand
My spots have been dead since the first few days of November. Today there was deer everywhere.
And he was packing heat. nice.
Dan, that’s right, RI is muzzleloader now. Sweet buck!!
Congrats Dan, real nice buck.
I got out for 90 minutes after work today. As I touched my tree a deer ran off 30 yards out. In stand at 3:20. 3:45 a four point comes from behind me. Stopped perfectly quartering away at 13 yards. A whispy branch with 8-10 leaves was covering his vitals. His next step was straight away, no shot. At 4:20, a doe walked up the hill followed by I think that same buck. Then a one point...yup, just his left side spike, walked within 5' of my stand with the bigger buck staying between him and the doe. I let one point go, and the other buck stayed behind some trees just out of range. Then he caught up to the doe and walked off. Finally some rutting action though.
No movement yesterday afternoon or this morning so far in this spot. Giving it up to the orange army tomorrow. Maybe they’ll have better luck.
I just saw the harvest report numbers through the end of October…… we are down over 40% from years prior.
I have had some really big bucks moving on camera. including a monster 10 and a couple of beauty 8 pointers. They are daylighting in the morning between 7-9 and at last light. I will be out there tomorrow afternoon and Thursday morning! shoot straight everyone, and be careful with the orange army entering the woods tomorrow as well.
Swamp, good luck out there; might be prudent to wear orange going in and coming out.
Lights out. The dance is on.
Hed three does come down the trail at 7:55 this morning. Lead doe was just a few yards from shooting lane when the two others that were lagging behind about 30 yards, and that I didn't see, busted me. Of course the lead doe turned and trotted after them. Not sure if they saw me move or if the sun reflected off of my bow. I got down after 11 and moved my stand to other side of trail so sun will be at my back. No bucks following.
Switched it up yesterday, hunted afternoon 1:30 until sunset.
Saw 2 does together, and an 8, out of range. Buck was alone.
Passed on a small spike. At first I thought it was a button buck, the ears blocked the 3 inch spikes.
