Has anyone who hunts Richland Center heard of or seen any wolves on trailcam? I was hunting Monday morning and first saw a set of eyes that were of different color than the deer I was seeing on my walk in that morning with my head lamp. Shortly after I got to my stand, both my buddy and I heard a solo howl that sounded nothing like a coyote.

Richland county does need some thinning of the deer herd, too easy there, a little competition won’t hurt.

Maybe even slow down CWD if they thin them out a bit.

From what you describe I can not say, nor do I hunt your area, but I would not be surprised as I live in Dane County. I have friends who are serious coyote hunters (hounds). They have reported Wolf sightings between the village of Dane (Dane county) and the city of Lodi (Columbia county) The group witnessed a collared wolf. The same group also claims of a pack in the area west of I-90/94-39, and south of the Wisconsin River (Harmony Grove, The Grade areas).

I have no doubts wolves are moving south and setting up shop. I have heard credible reports and actually sightings of Bobcats in Dane and Columbia counties as well. So wolves would not surprise. Oh the folks at the WI-DNR could not be more proud with wolves reaching southern, WI

This Bob was not far from Leland in Sauk County.

I also have a credible source in Columbia County that has seen a pair of wolves last fall on two properties there.

I am in northern Richland and hunters in the area have seen wolves....no packs just solo travelers. Same with cougars.

I have spoken to farmers just east of Leland who have said they have seen both a wolf and a cougar (...i.e., not together) on their property.

My friends have seen wolves here in Vernon County. I've heard they're in every county except Milwaukee county.

I would not wish wolves on my worst enemy

We had a neighbor who claimed to have seen one a couple years ago. All we get on cameras are lots of coyotes and a few bobcats.

News article just the other day about confirmed cougar spotted in West Bend. The article mentions that there is no cougar breeding in WI, but occassionally one wanders here.

Really, not breeding here? What did Evers put a ban on mountain lions breeding in the state? I'm guessing, just a hunch, that a male lion comes across a female lion in WI, they are going to be doing things.

If they ever do get a picture of a female cougar with a kitten, they will say it cannot be confirmed. It could be a bobcat or housecat merely following a cougar.

I hunt Richland County and run several trail cams. I have not seen any wolves, but I have had a couple interactions with bobcat's.

They've never found evidence of a female here and it's unlikely they will. WI is more than twice the dispersal distance of any known females. Males commonly disperse more than that distance and those are what we see here.

I hunt Richland. No wolves yet on camera but do have bobcats. I did lay eyes on a bear however.

I've seen several presentations on the topic and I am pretty sure it was covered pretty well in an article in WON.

I'm sure the state carnivore specialist could share some information. I think it's still Dave McFarland.

I live just outside of West Bend. I have daytime video of a wolf in my back yard. I videoed him for 5 minutes in broad daylight. A farmer down the road had 25 pictures of him on game camera. Took it to a wildlife biologist I know and he poo pooed it. We also had a sow with 2cubs a mile down the road last year. Now a cougar right down the road, Im getting scared lol.
