My buddy picked up one of those free papers and came across an article about an albino buck near Spooner. So he shared it with me.
Our buddy was up at his place for gun season. He sent me a text. One of the guys hunting with him at his place had a good sized albino buck wander right past him.
I’ve seen a piebald deer, but never a full albino on the hoof. Thought it was cool that one friend shares an article and shortly after, another friend texts about what I assume is the same buck.
Any of you guys see that albino from the article or others?
There are supposedly albino deer around Boulder Junction. I haven't really hunted around there, though. Never seen one, except on in the Bilboard in town.
I have one in the woods I hunt and have pictures of him but have yet to see him. My sine lives about 10 minutes from where I’m hunting and had one in the picked corn field across from his house Sunday afternoon just before dark. Sauk county.
Here’s the one where I hunt.
That’s cool Drop Tine. I hope you get a chance to see him sometime.
It seems to me that being piebald and especially albino would make life even more difficult for a deer. According to the article, that buck is ten years old. In wolf country. I would’ve bet against that.
I would think it would be easier to survive. 1st. No hunter “is supposed to shoot him”. 2nd. Although wolves aren’t color blind, they see dark colors better, but mostly rely on their nose. 3rd.. he’s less likely to be hit by a vehicle.
Not the greatest picture but here's one in an area I hunt in central Wisconsin
I have seen a few around the area. Sawyer, Bayfield, Douglas Counties. There was a big ten-point just out of Hayward that I saw one time. I didn't have a camera with me. A few days after I saw him, a truck hit him.
We should be allowed to harvest them .They are not a separate species . They live a shorter life because of their color And would make a neat wall hanger.
I’m sure you’d take some killer pics smokey. I really enjoy your work.
Seems like you’ve seen a pretty good number of albinos. Have you ever seen a melanistic deer? Got any pics of one of those?
