Have any of you guys tried a insect repellent called Picariden? It's also suppose to be good for ticks. Says it can be sprayed directly on skin or clothes... Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with it for repelling ticks mostly?

No experience with Picariden. But have used the spray or soak method with pemethrin for year. I think it make a big difference. Works better on ticks than mosquitos.

I use Sawyers spray on my clothes.

I've used Sawyers, but since I've just bought straight Permithrin. I add 2 to 2&1/2 oz. in a five gallon bucket of water and soak my clothes. Hang to dry. I've never had a tick using it or using Sawyers. Last for six weeks and through 5-6 washings.

Also use Permithrin. Last year didnt use it during turkey season and had over 20 ticks on me. This year used it and had 0. Id say it works

Insect Shield makes clothing fused with permethrin via a proprietary method that lasts for 30-40 washings. You can also send your clothing to them and for a nominal fee ($8/item?) they will fuse them with permethrin. I bought $12 jeans at Costco and had them treated six years ago and they have lasted. I live on 200 acres of mature hardwoods in NW Wisconsin and my dogs sleep on my bed. Insect Shield sells a blanket I put on my bed that protects me from ticks that might be on my dogs. My brother-in-law just sprays himself with Deet and has tick problems; I’ve had none.

Ticks in my area of the UP, have been a non issue, except for May. With that said, all I have ever used is Sawyers, very happy with it......

It's a little embarrassing walking up to the checkout counter with it, but there's a product called "Bug B'gon"...used mainly for bed bugs...but the main ingredient is permethrin and it's a much cheaper, and just as effective, alternative to buying a jug of straight permethrin. Comes in a blue and white spray can...and if you're afraid of sending the wrong message locally you could always put on your covid mask and buy it in a distant town where hopefully nobody recognizes you. lol!

Case, Sawyer is available in many stores. Look for a yellow can. I get mine at Walmart. Look in the attached link under find in stores.

The main ingredient in Bug b gone is bimethrin according to the label. How much different is that than Permethrin? Definitely read the label. Sawyer permethrin isn't too expensive. I use one 10 oz can in one season, spring through fall. About $10.

You're right, Smokey. I have the product name wrong. I'll take a picture of the can tonight and post it, but I do know the main ingredient is Permatrin and it works great for keeping ticks off ya.

I buy Permethrin in bulk and just soak my clothes in a gallon pail with water and permethrin. Less expensive this way.

And so does this.

As you can see both have the same percentage of active ingredient. I know back when I bought the Good Night spray it was much cheaper than the Sawyer brand, but just now when I went on Walmart's site to see what it sells for now it shows $231.00, which has to be a mistake! Anyway, I spray my jeans in the spring and both of these products last me all season without the need to respray...so a can or bottle should last you quite a while.

I buy a permethrin concentrate and mix gallons at a time. I hand wash my clothes in it and spray the rest around camp.

Never thought to spray it around camp, but that's a good idea!
