How are your summer leagues going? I ask this because I had to come home for family stuff,,,,, stopped off at my club. I was surprised, with all the work we do on the range, and set up etc,,,,, The Summer league is only 9 people this year. We use to have 35 teams............ think about that 9 people,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Fortunately we have 40 trap teams, and Lewis shoots etc, so that is what supports the club, and 25 teams for winter archery league.......... We are not even going to host a Open 3D event this year, and we always did 3...... We have the workers, just not the participants.............................
I will say our May ASA money shoot was well supported, but that is a different group, very dedicated tournament archers.................................. Hunting 3D is dying for us
Between work, grandkids, and a love for fishing, there's just not enough time for everything.... Don't make it to any anymore...
For me it seems most are South of me away's. I've been fortunate enough to make the chippewa shoot the past couple years. Most times when these are going on, I'm at my cabin. Used to be more of them it seems, reduction in bowhunters and the new ones not knowing they exist maybe. They are fun for sure.
About what Retro said , just exchange the word firearms for work .
Plus as I close in on 77 I'm only good for about 15 arrows per day .
Talked with a group tonite,,,,, in 20 years the WBH and the WTA, will not even exist,,, both great org,,,,, but this "thing of ours", is dying....................
Hey Glenn - that canteen looks like it is WWI or very early WWII issue. They also issued those to us at Parris Island in '65. Cool memories.
Groundhunter. You might want to start hanging with a different group. Their message is very negative and ill-informed. A lot of kids have been exposed to archery in the last 10 years. They will blossom.
Case , your spot on . The canteen is marked 1945 U S M C . Could very well have spent time at Paris Island .
I Spent a week in 66 at Paris for special weapons training . Talk about outnumbered . 8 Navy guys & 10,000 Marines .
Glunker, I guess I should clarify my points better. I agree with kids and archery, our kids spring leagues are packed, and we turn no one away. I am talking about the 20 to 40 year old hard core hunters,,,,, They dont join organizations like we use to,,,, in fact most do not realize, that without the WBH, and the directors work, no one would have the bow seasons, they have today......
and it might be a regional thing too , but shoots dont draw like they use too, from what I see................ I hope things change for the better for our future shooters and hunters......................
The "crossbow" for anyone, which our NRB and DNR, love, is having affects
Crossbow is the weapon of choice, most of the "kids"will be hunting with them in the near future, wished I was wrong but doubt it. Seeing them at shoots might be a temporary feel good thing but the long term outlook is all ready in the making.
Last one I shot was at Lorrie G's in Union Grove about 15 years ago. I think Kenosha Bowman still run theirs. It was fun but then again like anything else, you get home from work and sometimes just dont feel up to going.
