Except for Neb. vs. NW this coming weekend, the true football season and full slate of games don't really start until next week. Ain't it great to be an AMERICUN!

wtf...that is one of the weirdest opinion pieces I think I've ever seen and it's on the Wichita Eagle? Why would we care where Tennis players are from? The vast majority of Kansas State and KU basketball and football minutes have been logged by out of state kids for a long time. Apparently that's fine but someone from another country playing for a Kansas university is offensive? The guy wants local kids to play? Guess they should work harder to be good enough? What's the point of that.

I had a college coach who strongly recruited KS kids. Out of the entire team there were 2 out-of-state'rs and no foreigners. Said KS parents paid for the scholarships through taxes so KS kids would get the scholarships.

James I didn’t realize Kansas played last night. Should’ve probably stayed home and watched that instead of the powder puff I went to. By the score the Jayhawks seemed to have a good 1st game.
They played well, very few mistakes. They had TN Tech way overmatched, but they beat them like a power 5 team should for a change. Every game left now is a power 5 opponent, we’ll see what they’re made of beginning next with with West Virginia. I’ll be happy with 4 wins, more than that and I’ll be very happy. I’m beginning to get a little nervous that Nebraska will try to poach our coach, if the Hawks have a decent year.

We are experts in what we do. Keep in mind that we have kept Otis safe for 5 years now. Frank is nuts and we had to do some special tactical moves to keep him and his students away from Otis. You never know when a student is going to drive up with a decoy and make demands. Food, Gas money, autograph, signed panties, it just never ends. That's were we come in.......Sometimes the student is good looking and Otis will give us the thumbs up and we let her through......ultimately he mistreats her and she reports back to Franky. But over all we do a good job...................

Glad I stayed up and watched the end of the LSU game. A lot of emotions and momentum swings in the last 2 and half minutes…crazy ending.
No James I was interested in his program…anybody that keeps Otis safe with him being so wild and the way he travels has got to be really good. Not to mention to keep his new four legged companion safe now that is off running around as well.
When you have a brilliant mind after one of your clients you have to use it against him. For years he has dearly wanted to know what he does for a living and his education level. Always wanted to know why he always popped up when he said something…it was simply to turn his attention on him to keep Otis safe. Now at his lowest point when he knows he’ll probably never get Otis even after trying to get everybody to turn against him…Tom lets the hammer down. Didn’t understand at first why he would tell him but now it makes sense. When he had that great mind spinning and crossing himself he finally lets him know what he does for a living…now it is just too much for him to comprehend. He has tied him up without even laying a finger on him…simply brilliant.

That was a great ending! That FSU coach made a couple of stupid calls that kept LSU in it.
#1 right before the half it is like 4th & 9 on the 9 and he goes for it instead of kicking the field goal. Bet he was feeling that decision at end of regulation when LSU was kicking the potential game tieing extra point to send it into overtime?
#2 with 1:30 left in the game with FSU clinging to a 7 pt. lead, LSU muffs the FSU punt and FSU recovers the ball on LSU's 4yd line. Then a few plays later while on the LSU 2 yd line FSU calls a "pitch" play and fumbles it....giving LSU the ball back to potentially score and either tie or win the game.
The FSU player who blocked LSU'S game tieing extra point attempt with no time left in regulation needs an NIL deal if he doesn't have one!

Just curious, there are a few college football fans in general here, who have no partiality about KU’s next game. Anybody think KU stands a chance at West Virginia next weekend? The Hawks lost a close one to them last year in Lawrence. Most KU fans are hoping to keep it close but are expecting the team to get handled, but that could just be many years of futility talking. West Virginia fans seem genuinely nervous.

WV looked more athletic on D than I recall lately. Pitt figured out the passing game in the second half, but never could run the ball. If not for some dropped balls, including the pick 6 that sealed it, WV should have won in a pretty nasty environment. I’d be surprised if the Hawks can hang in Morgantown. The fans do seem pretty tired of their coach already, so maybe there’s a Backyard Brawl hangover coming. Imagine the moonshine should be flowing good for a night game in that place though.

The question isn’t whether OU will be back in the top 25, the question is will they finish the season above .500? Who woulda thought??? KU ranked for the first time since 2009 hopefully the season doesn’t end the same at this point. :-/ Although that would still be a massive improvement. I need to check my expectations, which they have already met.
Baylor had a good enough offense back in the day to really do something but their defense was pretty weak. It’s hard to outscore people every single game…sometimes you got to have a defense for those days your offense ain’t clicking. This might be a pretty special year for Kansas.

As a Baylor grad and fan, I'm enjoying the Kansas success so far! I think a lot of folks from a lot schools are. Who doesn't like a "rise from the ashes" type story? These give us hope. I hope Kansas keeps on keeping on, except against Baylor, of course. Now, basketball is a different discussion altogether. But I won't go there for now.
It’s funny this conference. But I’ll agree, KU is a pretty cool story. Game day in Lawrence? Nobody would’ve thought that. You better bring it every week in this conference. Any game is not a gimme. As much as people are counting OU out, you still better come to play… no telling when they will/or if they will wake up. Everyone needs their moment in the sun, maybe it’s KU’s year? Would be a remarkable turnaround. Fun to watch nonetheless.

I don’t think they can compete with the offensive firepower of TCU. This might come down to who has the better defense; and I don’t like KU’s chances there. I think TCU wins by at least 2 touchdowns. The real question is what is OU right now? If they are as bad as TCU made them look, then KU might have a better chance than I’m giving them credit for. I tend to think OU isn’t that bad and TCU is just that good.

They could lose the rest of the year. But as long as they compete, I’ll be happy. They keep the game tomorrow within 2 scores and it will be continued improvement. They have played TCU reasonably close in recent past, so we’ll see.
OU lost (to TCU and KSU) by poor defensive play (primarily DBs AND DL) and poor QB play. Our backups at QB are VERY suspect and could possibly take beating tomorrow. Anymore, a good mobile QB that can keep from turning the ball over can do well. I think OU is middle of the road to lower tier on offense and defense, right now. Can they improve? I think they can. I also think KU has a chance and would be surprised if it’s a runaway. The reason I feel they have a chance is QB play. BUT… if they go three an out as often as OU did, they could lose by 2-3 scores. Should be fun to watch.

Kobe Bryant loss is huge unfortunately, unlike other programs that are established, KU just doesn’t have the depth to keep losing key players. But that’s football I guess, hopefully in the future they’ll be better equipped to handle those losses. Hope Kobe is ok too, I’m listening to the game, but buddy watching it said it looked broke. :-(

My Frogs are having a great year. The sad thing is that they've had the talent for years but the previous coaching staff just got complacent. I know one of the kids on the team and it's a night and day difference between the latter part of Patterson's tenure and the new Dykes era. A good friend of mine played on the Rose Bowl team and couldn't believe how much the program had changed from his old playing days under Patterson. It became very laissez faire.
I doubt they or anyone gets through the conference unscathed. It's almost like basketball season in the Big XII where an upset across the board won't surprise me. Shoot, look what WVU did on Thursday to Baylor and what ISU almost did to Texas today.

Well isn’t that special? Maybe Tulane should really be ranked #16 in lieu of #25? Glad to have the win over KU…and this years OU team desperately needed that win. However, it’s a win over KU which ain’t sayin much as we’ve done that for more straight consecutive years and counting….than the Dugger’s have children.

I don't have much confidence in my Bears this weekend. This year's team has just seemed to find a way to lose. As mentioned above, the secondary is weak and the linebackers aren't getting the job done either. Offense was looking a little better last week until Shapen (Starting QB) got knocked out of the game. Drones came in and was serviceable. Too many injured and inexperienced starters. Last year, BU won a lot of close games. This year, not so much. Is it basketball season, yet?
And, FTR, I'm gonna be a big fan of KSU MBB this year (apart from when they play Baylor, of course). From what I've read and heard, Coach Tang is about as good as they come, and I wish him the greatest success!
Finally, in case any of you are adverse to out-of-staters, which is understandable, I've never hunted in KS and have no plans to do so at this point. Wouldn't mind going pheasant or quail hunting since we've pretty much run out of those but no plans for deer.
My family's place is in the NE TX Panhandle about 90 miles SE of Liberal. I monitor this forum mainly to see what's going on in SW KS as it might indicate what's happening on our place. Not much correlation, though, as our rut activity doesn't get going until Turkey week and seems to peak in early December.

I hate watching the Hawks play underachieving, highly talented teams. This Baylor team should be undefeated, it’s ridiculous. I’d be very disappointed in them if I were a Baylor fan.

James are you talking about basketball talent? In Football Baylor gets the talent about like the middle of the pack in the big 12. Texas and Oklahoma smokes them on talent. Now that I even think about it Texas gets better talent than we do even in basketball.

Not taking anything from them but there was quite a few times that Baylor didn’t impress me last year. They really didn’t have any super stars but were solid at every position. Their running back was a converted linebacker.
This year James they pretty much lost their whole secondary. It’s hard to win in the big 12 if your corners and safeties can’t stay within 5 yards of the receivers. They’re still a solid team except in that area.
Any predictions of tonight’s game Kyle? Might be a preview of the Big 12 championship.

Funny thing is that Max Duggan wasn’t the starter for the opener in Boulder. QB1 was actually Chandler Morris, an OU QB who’s transfer Lincoln Reilly tried to block a few years ago. Chandler balled out of his mind last year in his first start to give Baylor the loss that kept them out of the playoffs. Chandler got dinged-up at Boulder and Max has been at the helm ever since.
This team has had the talent to compete for years, it’s just that Patterson and the previous regime’s complacency hindered their success. Dykes is the QB whisperer and it’s unfortunate that Max only got 1 year under him.
Tech and UT are going to be absolute dogfights. TCU got the coach the Sand Aggies wanted (Sonny’s dad was a legendary HC at Tech) and Patterson will have a vendetta against the team who fired him. Baylor will give the Frogs a game, especially considering the loss last year and the natural rivalry between the two schools.
Patterson’s teams the last couple of years at TCU would’ve rolled over and died than claw back from the deficits they faced over the last couple of games.

Kansas put up a heck of a fight and with a backup QB, no less. Hope they win several more, especially against UT. They are definitely headed in the right direction, and I'm not looking forward to next year's game in Lawrence (football or basketball).
I have been somewhat disappointed in Baylor this year but my expectations were pretty low just based on the difficult road schedule and the talent lost. Baylor had 5 guys drafted last year who are currently on NFL rosters. They had a few others that were drafted and cut or invited to pro camps. There was a lot of talent to replace in the skill positions even if they weren't household names. Vegas had them winning 7.5 games this season which looks optimistic at this point. I certainly don't see any easy games left on the schedule.

OSU is a shell of what they were several weeks ago, injuries have really hit them hard. Not just their qb, their line is hurting as well. That’s the only reason KU beat them today and State drilled them last week. State should have played their best qb against Texas. Might have won with him.
This may be the most talented team Bill Self has had. They are really good at every position, with lots of depth. They play fast, shoot excellent, and can defend. Ranked 5th now but will be number one shortly.

State isn’t that good and the Hawks are gaining fast; now that LL is secured, next year it will look much different. Kansas is bowling, NEVER thought would happen 18 months after LL steped on campus. Also, Texas destroyed both Kansas teams and would again.

But it was announced about 2 months ago that 3 hundred million has been dedicated to a new stadium rebuild, the track will soon be history. This game here puts me in a bad spot. Being a Baylor fan TCU is one of my least favorites of the big 12 teams. K-State is my favorite 2nd team out of everybody but I’m hoping a big 12 team can make it in the final four. TCU was the only team in the conference to run the entire regular season gauntlet unscathed and the only team without a bye for all of conference play. It's hard to believe but they didn't have a bye since September. They were banged-up for the conference championship. If they win, do you all make shirts saying you were 1-1 against the National Champs? I remember the shirts saying "Texas State Champs" yet KSU never played TCU and TCU was a perennial Top 10. I guess since they were considered a "mid-major," just count it as a win? Wisconsin found out the hard way in the Rose Bowl.
I was in AZ and flights are booked to LA. I don't think we pull it off but it's been a heck of a season for a team who started the season unranked and 7th in the conference. I know two of the scholarship Kansas kids' families and couldn't be any prouder of them. I had beers with one of their dads in Scottsdale.
As of now, the Frogs are America's team. They've been playing with house money after winning 7 games this season. Might as well keep the party going.

C’mon Kyle….the real question to ask is how many playoff games has K-State even played in. Yep, we all know that answer or better yet how many times has K-State had a chance to play for a Natty. We know that answer too. What is sad is K-State has come close to sniffing a Natty only once in its existence and that was almost a quarter of a century ago in 1998…when Texas A&M put a dagger in #1 EMAW’s heart with that double overtime Big 12 championship game win.
I really hope in your lifetime you get a chance to see your alma-mater make it to a playoff game (let alone 4 like OU has) or a Natty game (like the many that OU has) and or actually win one (like the 7 that OU has).

KU went 12min w/o a field goal in the second half. Had it not been for the copious lopsided, and in many cases unwarranted, fouls called on OU, they'd have lost by 10pts or more.. you saw it.

Kyle....I wasn't going to mention the home cook'in by the Allen Fieldhouse ref's but glad you and some others saw/acknowledge it too. OU still did plenty to lose it. Anyway, like just about all Big 12 road games.....unforunatley you have to beat 2 teams...your opponent and the home ref's. If your gonna win on the road in the Big 12, you have to do it by winning convincingly or hit a last second buzzer beater.

I saw a KU team playing as hard defensively as any KU team I have seen in recent years. Down 11 late, I felt they would still win. They are young and will continue to get better. Alabama and Houston look impressive to me. Alabama is young with size.

Cherney their post play is better than last year. McCormack played well in the NCAA tournament but he was benched a lot during league play for a lack of production. He was mostly a disappointment his entire KU career. Adams has been getting better each game. He is a better defender, shooter, and passer than McCormack ever was. And stays out of foul trouble. Not as effective on the block at this point but much more athletic.
McCormack was pretty hobbled most of last year. He was a warrior in the tourney for sure and the MOP over Ochai imo.
I’m convinced Self will have a big man rotation set by March that will adjust to the opponent. It’s not that they don’t have size, it’s just a lack of experience. Adams’ improvement has been way ahead of schedule, but the other fellas will get it figured out as well. Clemence looked better last game.

In 1997 K-State students had a large gay pride demonstration at Manhattan Christian College, one of my best friends was a student there at the time. The professors at MCC bought and took donuts out to them; that shut the demonstration down pretty quickly. CCC here in Coffeyville has a professor that openly calls out all Christians in his class, telling them upfront he will ridicule them and their faith the entire semester ahead. Yes, KU is liberal, just like EVERY other state run university in our nation. That really where this conversation is headed? Good grief!

KU has a tough one this weekend, TCU is a monster. It took them a while to get going, but they are going strong now. Lampkin (sp?) was tough for the Hawks last year, he’s much better this year and much bigger than KJ. Hopefully KU shoots better than last night, or it will be a long day at the office. TCU turns people over like crazy too, and this team far from KU’s best ball-handling teams.
Good game last night, great defense. Harris choked at the end of regulation and overtime. Need more out of your pg in pressure situation. KU had 2 chances to win it. Bill should have not called the timeout. Had there been 19 seconds left, yes but you aren't going to get a good shot with 5 on the clock on a side out of bounds.

Your best player has the ball at the top 28 feet from the basket with 8 seconds left on the shot clock and you have a 1 point lead, no reason to call timeout. It is really exactly what you want. Bill Self is probably the best coach in college basketball, but that was a bad timeout. Looking back, it probably cost them the game. And it would probably be brought up. The last thing you want is a side out of bounds late in the shot clock.

That was written in September, before Self’s suspension, and what that article mentioned as possible, to likely punishment, after seeing what happened to Memphis, would be what I’d call the definition of a slap on the wrist. Roy Williams dealt with scholarship penalties his first couple of years and it didn’t keep him and KU from being successful way back when.

My Frogs are looking strong this year. Nice little bounce back after losing on Wednesday in Morgantown. A friend of mine in Wichita was on the previous WSU coaching staff and was close friends with Jamie Dixon's sister before she passed. He follows the Frogs and loves to have someone locally to discuss TCU. He thinks TCU is a sleeper for the Final Four. Top to bottom, the Big XII is just loaded. It's going to be a fun couple of months.

He chose KU over offers from: Michigan, A&M, Georgia, Auburn, and Florida, amongst others. Umm, do you guys even know who your team plays tomorrow evening and where? I’m serious, KU isn’t playing, but you might want to watch anyway. ISU is solid and favored. Their crowd will actually get excited when they play teams other than the Hawks. I think I’d be more worried about that than whether or not KU will get handled by Kentucky. Actually though, maybe they should, that flipped some kind of weird switch for them last year when they won the national title. Lol

Nice thing about KU’s title last year was how easy their path was. They beat 9 seed, 4 seed, 10 seed, 2 seed who lost their second best player in the regional final, and an 8 seed whose best player was injured before the game and again during the game. Nice thing about Self’s first title was that one of their players didn’t have to pass high school to get into KU
Patrick, I hope you’re not talking about Harris. I get frustrated with him on the court at times; but what that kid has had to overcome in his young life would crush many. He worked his butt off to get eligible. He won’t play a second of pro ball and he’s working hard to earn a degree that will continue to change his life. Don’t be a jerk.

James that kind of win doesn’t qualify much of anything. Baylor has got some individual talent but they ain’t playing as a team…too much 1 on 1 going on. Defense looks horrible at times. Better be happy you was playing Baylor cause just about anybody else in the conference would’ve been another blowout loss for ya.

Na Kyle I was talking about where he got fouled there at the end down by 5 shooting 3 free throws. Make the first 2 which he did but you got to bang the 3rd one off the rim to hopefully get a rebound to tie with a 3. Only reasonable option I think left with 3 seconds left.
