After years of trying I finally got a good bull with my bow. I have always been a "don't pass anything the first day you wouldn't shoot the last" type of hunter. Finally this year I decided that I was going to hold out and try for a big bull or eat my tag. I found a good bull 2 weeks ago and after missing opening weekend for a youth Kansas deer hunt for my son I wasn't able to get in until last Wednesday. Didn't take too long as I was able to locate the bull on Friday and get an arrow in him. I passed on several small bulls in my short 3 day hunt and still can't believe it all paid off.

Great looking bull, should score well. Your son will be proud of you, especially after taking him on a youth hunt. From looking at the pictures you had a well placed arrow and hopefully the tracking job was short and sweet. Congrats.

RDHunts - It was a perfect double lung shot. He had no idea I was around as I never called and he walked up to check on some cows that were bedded close to me. Arrow hit and he trotted down the hill about 70 yards as slow as an elk can run. At 70 yards he stopped for a second, walked backwards 5 steps and fell over dead. Zero tracking required as I watched him go down within seconds of the hit.

Ckapp22 Negative sir. You have a slim chance with 2 points to draw this tag but 100% odds with 3 PP. I have worked my little tail off in this area scouting and patterning the elk for years now. This is the third time I have bow hunted this tag. I am 3 for 3 but the first two bulls were a small 6x6 and then a decent 5x5. Over the last 5 years of being all around this area I have seen several 300"+ bulls. This year I decided to pass on all the raghorns and go for only a big mature bull. I saw this bull 2 weeks before season and knew that I needed to be patient and he would slip up.
