Next Commission Meeting
Kansas

Needing a place to voice your concerns. Here you go. I really want to ask for limited draw on all weapons + a stamp fee for Mule Deer. Current population crash and the number of tags still issued have gone unchecked. Based on previous population to tag ratios Kansas should only have an allotment of about 800 tags (resident only). Also no antlerless Mule deer should ever be able to be harvested I have seen several posted this year with the same comments I didnt want to go home empty handed. I also think a $150 Mule deer stamp should be in order to help finance studies for the remaining herd.
Agree with Matte. There need to be a lot of focus on rebuilding the mule deer herd. in western Ks. The harvest is far to high and killing MD does should stop.
Being a teacher and very involved in the community, I get to hear all the stories. Most all of the adults and students who do hunt buy an any season tag. And they kill a lot of mule deer.
save the pronghorns and mulies
Clipper, that happens more than we even want to know. I know of one guy who shot one near Greensburg and had no clue that it was a muley. He was showing pictures and talking about his unusual whitetail this year. Claimed it must've been a hybrid after someone told him that it was not a whitetail.
I have a friend I have been mentoring for about ten years. He told me he had been watching about 7 does and one good buck. I asked him if they were Mule deer and he said no. I asked for pics and yep they were Muleys
It happens a lot. That's a bad bad tag.
Some of these folks have been hunting awhile, how would one train them? Can't reach them with hunters ed.
It would be hard to teach someone that doesn't want to know.
It is important for the Commission to hear our observations and concerns, but they are no longer where the deer regulations and management decisions are made. Every change made since the late 1990s has been made in Topeka at the legislative level.
If your state Representative or Senator has been the same one for the last 2-4 decades, they are the ones that have made it happen.

Yes it is but we now have Senators going to be asking for more NR Tags 33,000 to fill all needs. Please, please, please know we all need to fight this
Unless you have a lawyer hired to lobby for resident hunters. You will always lose. Kansas will never be what it was. Those days are long gone and are never coming back.
We should have rioted in 1995. Should have stopped non resident hunting in its tracks. I wonder how many of you residents were totally against it from the start. I was 100%. Never wanted it. But many liked going to other states and felt their opportunity might be squandered in Colorado. So you have what you have now. I will continue to hunt for a couple of more years then I will quit deer hunting here altogether. Its like going from the varsity to the JV. KS is nothing but Bush League now. I was against NR hunting then and always will be. And that includes people living in others states with a lifetime KS license. You should have to go through the draw.
So every resident should go through the draw?
Thanks for that link Matte.
Pretty obvious what the agenda of the legislature is. Again… another “Republican”.
Read again Ray. However, for the gun season, that is how it used to be. But not what I said above. If you hold a lifetime license and live in another state, yes you should go through the draw system. Is that hard to understand? Is that unreasonable? If you are a NR landowner, you should have to go through the draw system. If you are a NR, then you are a NR. You should not have special privileges.
Sorry I mistook what you were saying, but now I’m wondering if a resident draw would be a bad thing?
Of course, if that were to happen, resident landowners should probably get a tag every year:)
In all seriousness, I don’t like any of it. Zero creativity or solid management.
Personally, I believe it would be better to focus on getting like-minded people in the legislature rather than a lobbyist.
The Republican Party has continued to fail in education and wildlife management. Two of the things I’ve been most passionate about in my life.
When someone asks what party I’m affiliated with I always say “Conservative”. They’ll respond, “oh a Republican”… and I’ll say, “No, a Conservative”.
The Democrats seem to be much smarter than the republicans, or the republicans are just completely spineless. I am about ready to quit voting republican, you get nothing to show for it. None of it matters now, NR hunting has been here 25 plus years. We waited to long. They really don't release data to us anymore, they don't want us to see it. But we keep paying their salaries. Used to be we got a thorough hunting report at the end of the year on all game, not just deer. You would think in 2022 that we would get the most thorough reports of all time. But then they could not hide the obvious. It used feel like a personal relationship between the KDWP and residents of Kansas. The magazine was awesome, data was collected to the best of their abilities, and released to the public.
Ray pm your email I can send you some of the old reports. I think you would really like to see them. It was so awesome back then. They make the current commissioners, KDWP, and legislature look foolish.
