Anyone seeing anything through the back door on the draw?
Oh no, it is too early I hope, I am not ready for the back door emotional roller coaster drama...... :0
Nothing yet. Too soon. I have a note that we did not get official results for goat/sheep until 5/12 last year. Backdoor was probably available a week before that?
+1 on PECO. I've been thinking about it the last week or two, but not sure I'm ready for the results.
According to the DOW page, May 3rd for sheep and Goat posted, June 1 for everything else. If they are going to post sheep and goat by the 3rd this would be the last week to draw
points are still showing under current preference points those usually disappear when they are conducting the draw. My guess is the draw will be later this week
The pattern in the past has been the official date is on a Friday, and they run the draw (points disappear and then are updated when they show back up) a week before that. Based on a May 3rd official date I'm guessing they will run the draw later this week.
Last year was an anomaly. If I remember correctly, the official date was supposed to be the 5th but that date came and went, they ran the draw a few days after that, and official results came out a week later. It seemed like it got delayed a week or so for whatever reason.
Sheep was available the "backdoor" way on May 7 last year. I expect it will be a little earlier this year since they have May 3 posted as the official date.
I agree with CO Oak. Later this week or maybe this weekend for the backdoor. I think they are pushing to complete the sheep and mt goat draws sooner since the CWC meeting is May 4/5 this year vs 12/13 last year. Moose tags will be set and the moose draw happened very quickly after the 2016 CWC meeting last year.
Good luck to all!
Sandbrew
Sheep points are gone under current preference points must be doing something
My goat points have disappeared too! Looks like we might get results on time.
Sheep is open through the backdoor! My son drew a ewe tag!!!
Congrats Keith!
Looks like a Ram tag is in my near future!
No change for me. :-(
Maybe it's not over yet?
Maybe I drew second choice ewe. LOL
Still have APP listed next to both mine and my son for sheep and goat. Assuming that is bad news?
I sure hope they haven't draw goat yet.
No Desert Sheep tag for me
this is what we seek...wish it was me.
Paul, looks like someone got your tag!
Me too- I should have stayed with Rocky's
No sheep for me yet again. Congrats to those that drew.
Is backdoor for goat up yet?
I hope not! Might have a chance yet
KHunter, who drew the desert tag? If they drew S56 I'd be happy to share info. I hunted it in 2010 and helped a friend in 2011
Congratulations to all the lucky ones! Hopefully some good rams will hit the ground from some bowhunters this year! Good luck!!!
Anyone seeing Mtn goat via back door?
A guy on the main bowsite page said his son drew mtn goat. Showing 500 code so maybe it's up
This is what I get from the sheep and goat "backdoor" every year...
Wow, you probably should see a Doctor about that! Looks infected!
Don't see how a diamond can shine in that!?!
They have the draw statistics up for sheep. Doesn't say who, but gives you an idea what points drew what.
Draw wizards what time do they general post results on planned posted date?
Sheep refund showing under results for me - 2017. Nothing for goat yet.
'Front door' results for sheep and goat are up for me as of 14:00 - unsuccessful.
I got the Nonres Desert Tag
That's awesome, Paul! Congratulations!!
I got a goat tag.. GEG1202R.. Maroon Bells. Excited isn't the word for it.. 9 years
any idea when deer or elk will be available?
Ski & Skin's Link
GEG1603R!!!! So looking at the the draw results? 3 tags: I was 3-4 (resident) 3-3 (resident) 3-3 (non-resident). 3 lucky people!!! Im grateful for the tag!!!!! I do feel bad for the 42 people that were ahead of me.
So my sheep unit had a little over 90 applications submitted, roughly 1/3 of those had 3/13 or more (7-3/16, max). One lucky 3/6 drew one of the 3 tags and only 1 max points drew. Regardless of the arguments, this draw system makes no sense to me.....Congrats to those that got them!
You have to think of the draw system as a lottery once you're 3+ points. In many cases, a weighted point might add less than 1% to your draw odds.
Yea weighted points don't mean crap. It's all equal and random after 3 points
My moose points have disappeared this morning.
Move the mark up to 10 or even 15 points + weighted points then you at least start weeding out the less serious ones.
Last year - 2016 - the Moose backdoor opened up on May 18th
Hopefully they are doing it early cnelk. Would like another tag for same spot as 3 years ago.
I'm going in for another spine fusion on May 15th so I hope that someone will let me know if I get a moose license.
I hate those spine fusions. good luck on the moose tag and the fusion.
This will be my 10th spine operation.
Wow. I thought my four (8 vertebra) where a lot. It does keeps us upright.
Good luck on your surgery, Merle.
Thanks Jeff. Tim, I will be fused in 10 levels. I hate getting into vehicles and wiping my you know what.
No 500 code yet for me or my son. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Really frustrating to keep trucking along with max points year after year and seeing all the tags get pulled by applicants with far less skin in the game...
This weighted points thing needs to be changed. Current system basically has guys in max-point pool getting worse odds every year as more people hit the magic 3+0 to be eligible.
Good luck to everyone in the draw and good luck hunting to the Super Lucky Ones!
I'm still on a 400 code as well.... dang it
Congrats 8pointer on your tag.
Saw a couple guys posting on MM this morning that they have a "500 code" for Moose.
Looks like I drew a bull moose tag 12,23,24! I've backpacked the area but if anyone has moose info I'd greatly appreciate it.
Somebody needs to start a campaign to change this crappy weighted point system!
Matthew's man might be able to help you out on 12 23 and 24. He shot a cow there 3 years ago I think. He's listed in this thread halfway up.
My neighbor Dan runs Ripple Creek Lodge- they have several nice bulls he keeps tabs on- of course any outfitter is going to want to have you hunt with him to share his info.
Yes- I had the first tag ever issued in the unit (only person who chose archery) and it was probably the toughest hunt I've done in Colorado- including goats and sheep to actually find a Cow in the unit. Finally found one with a 45" bull that I arrowed, and it was the only cow I saw in a full summer of scouting and 11 days hunting. I saw several big bulls that still have not been harvested out of the unit in 2012.
There were numerous BIG bulls I came across- and opening morning had a bull at 40 yards with about 7" horns- if the horns are 5" or smaller you can shoot that with a Cow tag- but they were slightly larger than a dollar bill so I wasn't about to make that mistake.
There are two guys here in Meeker- one is Stan Wyatt that runs the Meeker Sporting Goods shop (Wyatt's) right on Hwy 13, and the other Dusty Allen who lives here- both killed bulls here last year on their tags- I would look them up when you are over here.
Also a guy from the Ft. Collins area on bowsite was the 3rd bull tag from last year- maybe he will see this post-
Got my bighorn and goat refund today, still no 500 number for moose, most likely a refund in the mail for that one as well. This made 28yrs now, guess I should just plan the AK moose/caribou hunt instead. Best of luck to those that drew/draw!!
Does a 575 mean you drew a tag? Mine says: 2017 - 575 RES MOOSE I'm no expert on the 'backdoor' at CPW but I understand that a 5xx series code typically means you drew.
scrap wood you drew. Congrats
Oh man, I'm still a bit in shock. Good thing it's Friday and close to happy hour. I think some Patron will help me settle down and help it sink in.
Bull moose tag scrapwood? Congrats.
Not when it comes to a freezer FULL of delicious meat!
My deer points have disappeared
Moose is over rated if you over rate it, so don't. I am sure you would not accept a moose tag. For me, I like elk hunting but every 10 years I throw a moose hunt to mix things up. Say la vie.
I'd be very happy for that overrated tag.
Me too. Not cheap but much cheaper than that meat would be at the store.
I'm guessing he's coming at from the viewpoint that moose are not afraid of much so when you spot one you can pretty much walk right up to it and shoot it. That's what I did on my last moose hunt. A lot of them are also used to having their pictures taken by tourists all summer so they just think you're another tourist taking their picture until they feel slight pain behind the shoulder.
of course I was kidding. love hunting (and eating) them
We saw a couple moose in unit 77 last year, for the first time while hunting there. We've seen the signs for many years. A young bull was bedded just off the people trail - less than 20 yds, and just laid there as I approached. We talked for a bit and I admired his massiveness. I told him he may have died where he laid, or surely where he stood, if I had a tag and if he was legal. He mostly ignored me, then sauntered off for a quieter bedding spot. I kicked myself for having left my camera in camp. We did get a pic of this cow.
"Bull moose tag scrapwood? "
I drew archery cow, unit 6.
Sweet. Looks like I drew my 1st choice. Probably the only tag I'll draw this year.
575 for bull moose unit 19 !!
Elk draw underway, stay tuned
I drew unit 16 cow moose. Looking forward to scouting.
I had one elk point and applied for a unit that takes ten points. Second choice is a shoe in if the allocation is similar.
The improved economy could effect the number of applicants across the board.
